Upstairs is done!

Just another week of sanding, painting, mudding, and more sanding (Not necessarily in that order :p)...

Another short one this week. Mostly just finishing the upstairs and downstairs landings. The upstairs is done. All the tiles, wallpaper, and painting! There's still a few little details to be done but nothing major.

Mum did a really cute fish stencil along the upstairs landing which really finished off the floor and distracts from the imperfections in the floor.

Meanwhile the guys are still at it on the outside....

They are still doing a great job and are onto the last wall... Looks like they might actually beat us before we finish the last two rooms but they've still got a few days of work to go so we'll see...

Today we started on the last two rooms. They are kind of such a disaster and will take pictures for next week. But mum got most of the mudding done already today and I managed to finish getting the trim for the windows all cut. Need to take them outside for a good sanding and paint. We totally picked the wrong wood for the trim but it will look great by the time we're done with it!

It's actually starting to get nice enough we can move the construction site back outside. Meanwhile Frost warnings are still being issued for the area. Ha summer is a myth in these parts.... *skip a month and I'll be lamenting the heat*

That's it for this week. See you next week!

Happy May Days!

Hope everyone had a great long weekend! We took two days off for Sunday and Monday. We'd been working pretty hard fixing the walls upstairs and painting.

But first I thought I should post a pic of our ditch all filled in. When I get over to the sump pump ditch I'm going to do a better job of not mauling the grass so we can put it back. But our ditch is doing a pretty darn good job at redirecting the water. (As we have had lots of rain the last week)

We have almost completely finished the upstairs. Just the hall floor needs to be painted then just a few finishing touches...

I was going to paint the floor today but by the time I cleaned up and got it ready it was too late to give the floor enough time to dry. So I got it all prepped for first thing tomorrow. Then we can move downstairs! We decided we like the tissue paper method so mush we're going to do the entire lower landing like that.

The guys have been slowly making progress on the outside but with the weather it's been slow. Did I mention slow? lol. But they're down to just two sides of the house. One with the new windows is quite complicated but we aren't done inside yet so they have time. :p

Mum is in Shellburne at a shop that is going to sell some of her jewelry which is pretty cool! Hope it goes well... Looking forward to see what she has to say when she gets back. (After her disappointment over my lack of progress while she was gone wears off)

Meanwhile we did have a nice day and even got the kitties outside. Poor Sam spooked himself on some plastic; went inside and refused to come out again. Meanwhile Carl and I wandered around and grazed. Which he found the carpet with the deepest shag and puked it all back up again. Like.. really!? There's a whole house of hardwood and you picked the carpet. Well I can't complain it was me that let him graze in the first place! You'd think I'd learn by now. Ha! OMG and last night he was doing the zoomers thing and leaped up to run over the couch. Meanwhile i'm laying there as he body slammed my face and, realizing his mistake, just kept going and scrambled right over me! I wasn't expecting it and he knocked the wind out of me. It was so hilarious I so wish I'd caught that on film!

Soo... much... dust! OMG sanding! That's all I have to say about that. It's become impossible to contain! Even the vacuum has packed it in! (Well not completely. It just goes a few minutes before turning itself off) I just cleaned the darn thing and its already pooped. Mind you I am really impressed with the abuse it has taken. It's been an amazing vacuum and I think the next time I clean it it'll be right as rain.

Meanwhile as the guys pulled shingles off one of the walls we found some old linoleum from inside that they were using instead of tar paper. Oh those kooky people! But it did the trick for years and years so whatever just slap some new paper over it and shingle away!

Which is looking great by the way... Except at the rate we're going we might finish the inside before they finish the outside, haha j/k!

Meanwhile we've been inside busily working on the hallway and staircase.
We tiled the upstairs ceiling with polystyrene tiles. Man they work great at covering up the disaster that was the ceiling.

And on the large wall we glued up tissue paper to give it a funky stucco like look. I really like it so we're going to do the lower landing entirely in that style.
You can't really see the board on the bottom where mum is standing on over the staircase.

We're a couple of days behind schedule this week. I was hoping to have it done today but there's still a lot of painting and wallpapering to do before we move to the next room. But we needed to take a few rest days. Oh and a quick trip to Yarmouth for Mother's Day Chinese food. I miss Vancouver Chinese food... Well back to painting. :-)

Master Bedroom, Siding, and an exploded battery

The master bedroom
It's been a busy week this week! We've been busy working on the master bedroom which is completed now. I've moved back into the master bedroom now and today we spend the morning cleaning out the upstairs hallway so that tomorrow we can start on the upstairs hall. Hopefully by next week we'll be totally done the upstairs! *yay!* We decided to put a basic diamond pattern in the middle of the floor which was waaayyy less time consuming than the fancy pattern in the second bedroom but still looks amazing.

The guys have been hard at work on our siding and it's looking great! They've gotten about 1/3 of the house finished and are making good progress.

We installed the second window and wrapped in plastic. It took us a lot longer to put in this window as we had to resize the frame to fit the new window size. The old one was quite a bit smaller and, thankfully, the original frame was the same size as the right hand window so once the old frame was removed the even older frame just needed some resizing.

We still need to fix the inside and when the guys make it to that side of the house we'll finish putting the blue weather sill around the windows.

Went for a walk along the trail that's on the mainland on Sunday and saw a little snake suntanning itself on the path. Spring is here even the snakes have thawed out! When we got closer it retreated into a pond on the side of the path which was interesting but it seemed happy where it was so we didn't disturb it.

Last night was filling in the ditch we dug with a weeping tile drain and gravel. Took us a few hours and both of us hurt so bad we could hardly move! Getting our exercise for sure!

Today we opened up the motorhome and had a look. Most of the locks and handles on the outside compartments had seized. So there was a bit of WD-40 to get them to open again. The inside is in great condition and the awning opened up just fine. haha took me a while to remember the correct procedure to open it and then again to close it!

We opened up the hood to check the engine before starting her up but we found that the battery exploded sometime over the winter. Not sure what caused it to explode.. I'm thinking a power outage killed the trickle charger and overloaded the battery but pure speculation at this point. All's I know is that the battery is totally kaput and we'll have to pick up a new one. 😩

So this week will be more sanding and painting the upstairs hall. But once that's done it'll be time to move downstairs and finish the last two rooms!

And who knows what else awaits us this week....
